The Zildjian Company's secret cymbal alloy has been in the family since way back in 1623, and has been passed on from generation to generation. The A Custom series gets its name from the founder of this family business - Avedis I - who got the Zildjian name from the sultan in Constantinople. Additionally, this series has been designed in collaboration with renowned drummer Vinnie Colaiuta.

With its bright, crisp sound, this 14-inch A Custom Mastersound hi-hat features all the characteristics you'd expect from an A Custom cymbal, yet it has a slightly more full-bodied sound thanks to the heavier bottom cymbal. This bottom cymbal also features Zildjian's Mastersound hammering, which creates somewhat of a rippled edge. That edge means that the air can escape out of the cymbal even when it is closed, which alters the sound. This is most evident when you play the hi-hat closed, and when you use the hi-hat pedal, the Mastersound hi-hat produces a fast and clear 'chick' sound.
